Statement of Ipswich Police Chief Paul Nikas

IPSWICH — Police Chief Paul A. Nikas issues the following statement in regards to a guilty plea in the criminal case of former Police Sergeant Peter Nikas, his brother.

“The Ipswich Police Department is a modern and progressive public safety agency that understands that it must have the trust and faith of our community in order to be successful. As Chief of the Ipswich Police Department, I am aware of this responsibility every day, and I have always instructed my officers and investigators to treat every case equally, regardless of those involved.

“This is an unfortunate situation, but I am relieved that this case has come to a conclusion. Police Officers must be held to a higher personal conduct standard than the average citizen. My brother made a series of unfortunate decisions on the evening in question, and he has taken responsibility for those decisions.”
