Chelmsford Police Investigating ATM Skimming Device Placed at TD Bank

CHELMSFORD — Police Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is actively investigating a case of fraud and identity theft at a local bank.

The Department was notified recently by TD Bank that someone had placed a “skimming device” on an ATM at the bank’s Drum Hill Road branch.

As a result, several debit cards have been compromised.

Skimming devices are electronics placed over legitimate ATMs and are used by identity thieves to capture credit and debit card numbers, as well as personal identification numbers.

TD Bank is cooperating with the Chelmsford Police Department. If anyone used an ATM at the Drum Hill Road branch, they are urged to call Chelmsford Police at 978-256-2521. TD Bank customers can also report fraud or identity theft on their accounts by calling the TD Bank Phishing and Identity Theft Hotline at 800-893-8554
