Ipswich Police Department Welcomes New Officer from Academy

IPSWICH — Police Chief Paul A. Nikas is pleased to report that the Ipswich Police Department is welcoming a new officer from the police academy.

On February 5, 2015, Officer Matthew Mayer graduated from the 28 week Reading Academy Recruit Officer Course RO-22nd. This intensive training academy is offered through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee.

After graduation, Officer Mayer enter into the Ipswich Police Department’s four-week Field Training program, which partners him with various veteran Ipswich Police Officers to evaluate his policing skills before starting his one-year probationary period.

Officer Mayer is a lifelong resident of Ipswich and is 26 years old.

“I am proud to welcome Officer Mayer to the ranks of the Ipswich Police Department,” Chief Nikas said. “Becoming a full-time police officer in Massachusetts is a long and competitive process. It requires a lot of personal dedication and sacrifice from police candidates and their families. Officer Mayer excelled during this arduous process and as a result I have very high hopes and expectations for him as he continues with his police career.”
