Boxborough Police and Firefighters Rescue Dog Stuck in Snow-Covered Wall

BOXBOROUGH — Police Chief Warren B. Ryder reports that the Boxborough Police and Fire Departments teamed up last week to rescue a trapped dog, stuck in a snow-covered wall.

On Wednesday, Jan. 28, at approximately 7:15 p.m. Boxborough Police Officer Patrick Colburn and Animal Control Officer Phyllis Tower responded to a report of an animal stuck in a wall on Davidson Road in Boxborough.

Upon arriving, the two rescuers found Angus, a golden retriever who is a member of a local family. However, they could not remove the dog from the wall. Colburn and Tower requested BFD to come and they responded to the scene. Firefighters began to disassembling the wall, piece by piece, very carefully.

Meanwhile, Dr. Christian D’Orazio, a veterinarian from Westford Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center, arrived and sedated Angus. The sedation allowed for the rescuers to extricate Angus successfully from the remains of the wall.

Angus was brought to the veterinarian for an evaluation and was then released and sent home. Angus was believed to be stuck for about two hours prior to the police response and the rescue mission took just over an hour.

“It was our pleasure to help rescue Angus from his scary predicament,” said Boxborough Police Sergeant Warren O’Brien. “We are very pleased that he is doing well. It was part of our commitment to help not only our human customers, but our animals as well.”
