Maynard Police Arrest Former High School Student in Connection with Plot to Harm Students

19-Year-Old Has Open Assault Case

MAYNARD — Police Chief Mark W. Dubois reports that the Maynard Police Department this afternoon arrested a 19-year-old man and charged him with threatening to kill students at Maynard High School.

JOSEPH L. BROOKS, AGE 19, OF MAYNARD, is a former Maynard High School student. The Maynard Police Department today became aware that he had informed current students of a plot to kill people at the springtime high school graduation ceremony or on the last day of school.

The police department acted immediately, arresting BROOKS, who is known to police.

BROOKS has an open Maynard Police Department case for assault and accessory before the fact out of Concord District Court. He was arrested without incident and is being held without bail pending his arraignment tomorrow in Concord.

BROOKS is charged under MGL 269 Section 14: Threatening to Use a Deadly Weapon at a School or Public Building.
