Saugus Students Win a Ride to School from Saugus Police
SAUGUS — Police Chief Domenic J. DiMella is pleased to report that two students at the Belmonte Middle School rode in the back of a police cruiser today.
But they weren’t in trouble!

Saugus resident Toni Rau recently won the “Ride a Student to School” raffle held as a fundraiser by The Veterans School Parent Teacher Organization. As a result, her son, Logan and his friend Devon Burke were given a ride to the Belmonte Middle School in style! Officer Lorenzo Internicola provided chauffeur services for the two kids, who rode in his marked Saugus Police Cruiser.
The contest was authorized by Chief DiMella as a way to help the PTO while promoting police-community partnerships.
“We want families and kids in Saugus to be comfortable and feel safe around police officers, and what kid isn’t curious about the inside of a police car?” Chief DiMella said. “I am glad that the Saugus Police Department could help the Veterans School PTO, and I hope we can run this program again and again in the future.”
During their ride to school, Logan and Devon were shown the various pieces of equipment in the cruiser including the radio, safety features, and, yes, the lights and siren as well. They also asked Officer Internicola about his career as a police officer and general police operations.
