Bedford Police Recruit Graduates Academy
Officer Timothy Barry Becomes a Third Generation Police Officer
BEDFORD — Police Chief Robert Bongiorno is pleased to report that Officer Timothy Barry has officially graduated from the Lowell Police Academy and will join the Bedford Police Department.
“With so many excellent candidates seeking to become police officers, I can confidently say that Officer Barry represents the best of the best, and we are very proud to add him to the Bedford Police Department,” Chief Bongiorno said. “We have extremely high hopes and expectations for him, and I wish him well as he begins his field training.”
Officer Barry is a Bedford resident. His father is a Sergeant with the Lexington Police Department. His grandfather was also a police officer.
He successfully graduated from the Lowell Police Department Basic Recruit Training Academy, a rigorous, 22-week training program that includes Community Policing strategy, investigation, traffic enforcement, and creative problem solving. The Academy training also included approximately 50 classes in police science and other relevant subject areas, taught over the course of nearly 900 hours.
Officer Barry will begin a period of work under a Field Training Officer, Officer Robert Abajian, which is followed by a year-long probationary period.
