Gloucester Police Charge Driver in Pedestrian Crash this Evening

Driver Was Allegedly Under the Influence of Drugs

GLOUCESTER — Police Chief Leonard Campanello reports that a driver has been arrested and charged after he struck and seriously injured a pedestrian this evening.

VINCENZO MANNONE, AGE 27 OF GLOUCESTER was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs and failure to keep right.

Gloucester Police, Fire, and EMS responded to Maplewood Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident, pedestrian struck. Upon arrival, responders located a man on the ground, with significant injuries and head trauma. The victim, a 38-year-old man from Gloucester, was taken by Boston MedFlight to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries.

MANNONE remained at the scene after the crash. A Gloucester Police investigation revealed he was under the influence of drugs, and he was arrested at the scene. He was transported to the Gloucester Police Department for booking and held pending bail. He will likely be arraigned Monday in Gloucester District Court.

The case remains under investigation by Gloucester Police and Fire. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section was called in to aid in the investigation.

The crash was not related to Halloween Trick-or-Treat activity.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
