Arlington Police Arrest Level 3 Sex Offender, Seen Fleeing Woman’s Home
Police Were Conducting Well-Being Check
Suspect Charged with Rape, Armed Home Invasion in Brutal Attack
ARLINGTON – Police Chief Frederick Ryan tonight announced that Arlington Police Officers, conducting a well-being check on an Arlington woman, pursued and detained a man who ran from the home when officers arrived.
When officers entered the home, they found that the woman had serious injuries and told police that she had been the victim of a home invasion and sexual assault.
When officers arrived at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, a man fled out the back door. Officers gave chase on foot and captured the suspect a short time later.
ESSIE L. BILLINGSLEA, age 45, of Boston, a Level 3 Sex Offender, was arrested and has been charged with Aggravated Rape (subsequent offense), Kidnapping, Home Invasion, Assault and Battery, and Armed Assault in a Dwelling.
Arlington Police allege that BILLINGSLEA broke into the woman’s home and allegedly beat and raped her.
“This is a heinous crime. A woman has been viciously attacked in her home by a Level 3 sex offender with a history of violence,” Chief Ryan said. “I commend my officers for capturing this dangerous felon, and we will spare no resource in providing the victim with the support and care that she needs.”
BILLINGSLEA is in Arlington Police Custody tonight. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court tomorrow morning. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
The victim is being treated at an undisclosed hospital. Her name and age will not be released. The address of the incident is not being released.
