RAYNHAM — Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita reports that the Raynham Fire Department and mutual aid partners battled a brush fire Friday night.

On Friday, Oct. 30, at about 7:45 p.m., the Raynham Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Cobb Street for a report of an unattended campfire.

Upon arrival, crews found a significant brush fire. The fire was being fueled by windy conditions, causing it to spread rapidly.

Due to the location of the fire, crews encountered access issues and needed to clear brush and trees to make a direct path to extinguish the flames.

Raynham Fire requested mutual aid support, and the fire departments of Berkley, Lakeville, Middleborough and Rehoboth responded with tankers to bring additional water to the scene. Dighton Fire also responded with a forestry unit.

Crews were able to extinguish the flames and remained on scene monitoring hot spots until about 11:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Raynham Fire Department.

Additional mutual aid was provided by Raynham Police and Bridgewater Fire. Taunton Fire Department provided station coverage.

“The rate at which this fire was spreading and the outside conditions, made this fire extremely difficult to put out,” said Chief LaCivita. “In incidents like this one, our mutual aid partners play an instrumental role in increasing our water supply and bringing more personnel to the scene. Without our mutual aid partners, this fire could have spread even further. We remain grateful for their partnership and collaborative efforts.”
