| MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson and Old Rochester Regional Junior High School (ORRJHS) Principal Silas Coellner are pleased to announce the 33rd annual Thanksgiving Dinner for senior citizens. Tri-Town (Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester) senior citizens are invited to gather in the ORRJHS cafeteria on Sunday, Nov. 22, for an afternoon of food, friends and thankfulness. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m. and the meal will begin at noon. “The annual Thanksgiving Dinner is an opportunity for our school community to give back to the eldest residents of Mattapoisett, Marion and Rochester,” said Principal Silas Coellner. “I am always grateful to see so many staff and student volunteers participating in this event. It truly embodies the spirit of the holiday, and I am proud to see the ORRJHS community collaborating to fulfill such a meaningful cause.” The dinner is sponsored by the ORRJHS community. Families and community members annually donate turkeys, pies and door prizes for the event. There are 300 tickets available, 100 per town, and will be distributed through each town’s Council on Aging. “This event is a special opportunity to strengthen intergenerational bonds within the Tri-Town region,” said Director of Guidance Christina Cioffi. “As our students and staff provide the seniors with a meal, there is an opportunity to connect with people we otherwise might not meet. Year after year, the cafeteria is filled with shared stories and conversations during this event, and ORRJHS is proud to provide this experience to our seniors.” Meals will also be available for homebound seniors. To request a meal for a homebound individual, contact the local Council on Aging with the recipient’s name and address. Last year, about 200 seniors attended the event, which was staffed by over 40 staff and 36 student volunteers. “We look forward to welcoming Tri-Town senior citizens back into ORRJHS for our 33rd annual Thanksgiving Banquet,” said Superintendent Michael S. Nelson. “This is always a day of gratitude and positivity, and I look forward to seeing our school community provide a warm meal and pleasant afternoon for our seniors to enjoy.” Businesses and individuals interested in providing monetary donations or door prizes are encouraged to contact ORRJHS at 508-758-4928 and ask to speak with Director Cioffi. |
