LOWELL — Lowell’s largest annual gathering of families in Halloween costumes will have people looking to the skies this year as the Lowell Bicentennial Committee brings the city’s first-ever drone light show to MonsterBash and Fall Fest on Saturday.

MonsterBash and Fall Fest is a Lowell tradition, brought about by a partnership between the Kiwanis Club and the City of Lowell for nearly 30 years. The event includes a haunted house, trick-or-treating at downtown businesses, carnival rides on Merrimack Street, which will be closed, musical performances, and, this year, a drone show extravaganza just after sunset.

The Lowell Bicentennial Committee, which raised about $1 million from private donors for this year’s multifaceted celebrations, is sponsoring the drone show just months after also sponsoring the city’s largest-ever fireworks display.

The drones will take to the skies above the Rockland Trust parking lot between Merrimack and Middle Streets at 6:30 p.m., on Oct. 24.

Starting at noon, trick-or-treaters will be able to gather candy, ride rides, and enjoy quiet spaces in the Pollard Memorial Library or Lowell Health Department if needed.

There will be food trucks, performances by Jim Plunkett, Fearless: the Taylor Swift Experience, and Booty Vortex, and an adults-only celebration — The Haunting of Hive — at Hive Public Market involving potentially haunted artifacts from Lowell’s history on Saturday night.

“MonsterBash and Fall Fest are always a colorful, joyous celebration of all that is spooky and fun here in Lowell,” said City Manager Thomas A. Golden, Jr. “I invite everyone to join us for rides, candy, and our city’s first-ever experience with a drone light show just after sunset. I am grateful to the Bicentennial Committee for adding a real full-size candy bar to our Halloween bag this year.”
