SOUTHBOROUGH — The Southborough Police Department arrested two people on charges of operating under the influence in separate incidents within the same hour early Monday morning.
On Monday, Oct. 19, at about 2 a.m., Southborough Police conducting a routine traffic patrol on Turnpike Road observed a motor vehicle speeding eastbound and driving erratically. Officers stopped the vehicle and observed signs that the operator, identified as WILBER P. CHINCHILLA, was under the influence of alcohol.
Following an investigation that included field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer test, which registered a blood alcohol content of 0.157%, CHINCHILLA was arrested without incident.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found several nips and an open tequila bottle.
CHINCHILLA, AGE 30, of FRAMINGHAM, was arrested and charged with:
- Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Speeding at a Rate of Speed Exceeding Posted Limit
In a separate incident on Monday, Oct. 19, at about 2:50 a.m., Southborough Police patrolling near the intersection of Boston and Framingham Road observed a green Subaru SUV driving erratically in close proximity to the vehicle in front of it. Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Framingham Road and Maplecrest Drive.
While speaking to the operator of the vehicle, identified as ISABELLA TOFANI, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on her person. Following an investigation, including field sobriety tests, and a breathalyzer test which registered a blood alcohol content of 0.128%, TOFANI was arrested without incident.
ISABELLA TOFANI, AGE 27, of MARLBOROUGH, was arrested and charged with:
- Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Marked Lanes Violation
Both individuals were arraigned in Westborough District Court this morning.
“I want to commend the vigilant work of the officers who responded to these incidents, which removed two dangerous operators from the road,” said Chief Ryan Newell. “The Southborough Police Department has zero tolerance for those who choose to drive impaired, knowing they could be a danger to themselves and others. In these incidents, our officers made two good arrests to remove these operators from the road before a more serious incident could occur.”
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
