TOWNSEND — Members of the North Middlesex Regional High School field hockey team came together on Saturday, Oct. 3, to support breast cancer awareness, participating in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Boston before bringing the support back to the field for a Pink Game on Monday, Oct. 5.

Led by Coach Carly Shugrue, the team left Townsend early Saturday morning to travel to the Charles River Esplanade, where players participated in the 34th annual walk, showing their support for those affected by breast cancer. The event brought together community members from across the region in support of the American Cancer Society’s mission to fight cancer.

Following Saturday’s walk, the team continued its commitment to breast cancer awareness by hosting a Pink Game on Oct. 5. The game provided another opportunity for players and the school community to come together in support of the cause and to recognize the importance of breast cancer awareness.

Through their participation in the walk and their Pink Game, North Middlesex field hockey players demonstrated how school athletics can extend beyond competition, bringing teammates and the community together to support an important cause.

“We are incredibly proud of our field hockey program for coming together to support breast cancer awareness,” said Athletic Director Ryan DeMar. “Their participation in the walk and the Pink Game reflects the compassion, teamwork and community spirit we strive to foster throughout North Middlesex Regional School District.”
