HOLBROOK — Chief David Del Papa reports that the Holbrook Police Department has identified and charged a driver following an investigation into a September crash in which a juvenile pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene.
A 66-YEAR-OLD MALE, of BROCKTON, has been summonsed to court on a charge of Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury.
The charge stems from a crash that occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on North Shore Road. A 15-year-old juvenile was struck by a vehicle while walking home from a nearby bus stop. The vehicle left the area following the crash.
Holbrook Police immediately began canvassing the area for surveillance footage and subsequently released images of vehicles of interest as detectives worked to identify the vehicle involved.
As the investigation continued, detectives obtained surveillance footage that showed a charcoal-colored Chrysler minivan traveling from the area around the time of the crash. Additional surveillance footage obtained during the investigation allowed detectives to identify a partial license plate.
Detectives then used the partial plate and vehicle description to conduct a search using automated license plate reader cameras. Through the investigation, utilizing information obtained through the cameras in Holbrook-area communities, detectives were able to identify a 2020 Chrysler Voyager and track the vehicle’s movements on the day of the crash.
Detectives subsequently located the vehicle and identified its owner and operator. Police also observed damage to the vehicle that investigators determined was consistent with a pedestrian crash.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, police identified the 66-YEAR-OLD MALE as the driver and established probable cause to charge him with leaving the scene of personal injury.
The 66-YEAR-OLD MALE is scheduled to be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Nov. 4.
“The public played an important role in helping our detectives piece together what happened and ultimately identify the vehicle and driver,” Chief Del Papa said. “We received valuable surveillance footage and information from the community, and our detectives followed each lead and used every investigative resource available to them. I want to thank everyone who assisted us and our detectives for their persistent work on this case.”
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
