Burlington Police Place Officer on Paid Administrative Leave

BURLINGTON — The following is a statement from Chief Thomas P. Browne: 

“On Monday, Sept. 14, the Burlington Police Department placed Lt. Peter Abaskharoun on paid administrative leave following his arrest on charges of Assault and Battery on a Family/Household Member and Witness Intimidation.

“Lt. Abaskharoun was placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements, pending the outcome of the criminal case and an internal affairs investigation

“He was arraigned in Woburn District Court this morning.

“This matter is being taken extremely seriously, and appropriate administrative action will be determined based on the findings of the investigation. The Burlington Police Department holds its officers to the highest standards of conduct, and the allegations in this case do not reflect the mission or values of our department. We are committed to conducting a thorough and impartial review.

“As this is an active criminal and internal affairs matter, no further information will be released at this time.”
