WILMINGTON — Wilmington Police Officer James Hill was recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for excellence and dedication to enforcing impaired driving laws.

On Tuesday, June 9, Officer Hill was among 30 Massachusetts police officers honored by MADD at the organization’s annual Law Enforcement Awards Breakfast in Devens.

Officer Hill received the OUI Excellence Award after being nominated by Chief Brian Pupa.

In 2025, Officer Hill issued 1,384 civil motor vehicle citations — over 16% of the department’s citations — while proactively patrolling during the overnight shift. He also made six arrests for operating under the influence, which was nearly 20% of the department’s OUI arrests for the year.

Officer Hill has served the community with Wilmington Police since 2022, and is known for handling calls with skill and attentiveness, and for writing nearly flawless police reports.

“Officer Hill’s enforcement efforts don’t just punish those who put others at risk by driving impaired; they also help to prevent others from taking the risk,” said Chief Pupa. “Though Officer Hill does not seek public recognition for his efforts, it is important top recognize his diligence in trying to continue to keep the roadways of Wilmington safe, which is a major priority of the entire Wilmington Police Department. We are proud to join MADD in recognizing the dedication and professionalism of Officer Hill.”
