BRIDGEWATER — Fire Chief John Schlatz reports that the Bridgewater Fire Department quickly extinguished an early morning fire that extended from a deck to the exterior of a home on Pratt Avenue.
At 4:11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, the Bridgewater Fire Department received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a fire on the deck of a single-family home at 116 Pratt Ave.
When crews arrived, firefighters observed fire showing from the rear left corner of the home, extending from the deck toward the roofline. Engine 4 and Ambulance 4 were first to arrive on scene. Lt. Casey Florence requested a working fire assignment due to the visible fire conditions, bringing additional resources to the scene.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire using water from Engine 4’s tank and conducted a search for any extension inside the home. Crews then completed overhaul operations outside.
The home’s occupants were alerted by working smoke alarms and safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
The Bridgewater Fire Department’s response included Car 1, Car 2, Car 4, Car 5, Engine 3, Engine 4, Tower 1 and Ambulance 4.
The West Bridgewater Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident.
Command cleared the scene at approximately 6:17 a.m., while Car 5 remained on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
The fire remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Fire Department and Bridgewater Police Department.
“Exterior fires have the potential to rapidly escalate and cause significant damage both inside and outside a structure,” said Chief Schlatz. “Our crews arrived on scene quickly and did a great job getting to the source of the fire to prevent widespread damage.”
