Assabet Valley Business Technology Students Give Back to Children in Need with Annual Kits for Kids Initiative

MARLBOROUGH — Superintendent-Director Ernest F. Houle is proud to share that students in the Business Technology program at Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School District successfully led the annual donation initiative benefitting Kits for Kids.

The initiative resulted in the assembly of 120 kits for children in need. As part of their capstone Impact Project, sophomore students organized a school-wide and community donation drive, marking their second year partnering with Kits for Kids.

To encourage participation, students launched ‘Shop Wars’, a competition among Assabet’s technical programs to collect the most donations. A $200 prize was awarded to the top contributor. The initiative was also supported by a $250 Chick-fil-A microgrant.

Student leaders played a critical role in organizing and executing the project, including project manager Davi Caliari, Operations Team Leader Tamir Slater, Fundraising Team Leader Matheus Macri and Communications Team Leader Kaio Dais. The leaders guided their classmates to success, presenting their work alongside Business Technology teacher Sharon Bogere at the Marlborough Rotary Club on April 16.

As a result of their efforts, students collected 2,064 physical items, $1,428 in cash donations, 253 raffle prizes and gift cards, and donations from 16 businesses. On May 27, students assembled 120 care kits, each kit including hygiene items, coloring books, crayons, games, journals, toys, and a Chick-fil-A meal voucher.

Each completed Kits for Kids package will be distributed through the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to support local children.

“This project allowed our students to step into leadership roles while making a difference in their community,” said Superintendent-Director Houle. “I am proud of our students for their efforts and the impact they continuously make to help our community.”
