Haverhill Public Schools Earns National Recognition for Academic Growth and Literacy Initiatives

HAVERHILL — Superintendent Margaret Marotta is pleased to share that Haverhill Public Schools received two recognitions highlighting the district’s progress in academic achievement and instructional leadership.

The district was recognized as one of the 2026 Districts on the Rise in Math list by the Education Scorecard, a national research initiative led by researchers from Harvard University, Stanford University and Dartmouth College.

Haverhill was one of four Massachusetts school districts recognized for demonstrating accelerated academic recovery and improvement in mathematics.

The Education Scorecard is considered one of the nation’s most comprehensive district-level analyses of academic achievement and post-academic recovery.

In addition to Education Scorecard’s recognition, Haverhill was selected by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as the statewide spotlight district. The district was chosen during a presentation focused on secondary literacy supports, highlighting Haverhill’s work to strengthen literacy instruction and student support systems at the secondary level.

The two honors reinforce the district’s continued commitment to evidence-based instruction, academic recovery and long-term student success.

“These recognitions reflect the dedication and hard work of our students, staff, and school community,” said Superintendent Marotta. “To be recognized nationally for mathematics growth and by the state for literacy instruction demonstrates the strong momentum happening across Haverhill Public Schools.”
