TAUNTON — Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School Biotechnology Instructor Kristen Mancini has been named the 2026 Educator of the Year by the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Mancini was recognized along with other award recipients at the Chamber’s annual meeting on May 13 in Rehoboth.
The Educator of the Year award, sponsored by Bridgewater State University, recognizes teachers who demonstrate exceptional leadership in the classroom and make a meaningful impact on their students and communities.
“She is an outstanding educator who embodies exceptional teaching and leadership, and she has had a profound impact not only on her assigned students but also on the Bristol-Plymouth community as a whole,” Bristol-Plymouth Vocational-Technical Coordinator Beverly Rebelo wrote in a nomination letter. “Kristen’s passion for teaching, commitment to her students and leadership within our school and the broader community make her an exceptional educator.”
Mancini has played a central role in developing Bristol-Plymouth’s Biotechnology program since its inception. She integrated Advanced Placement Statistics into the Biotechnology curriculum, helping students build analytical and research skills used in real-world scientific fields.
She also founded the school’s Science Club and established the Massachusetts Science and Engineering Fair program at Bristol-Plymouth, which creates opportunities for students to conduct original research and present their work at regional, state and international competitions. Her work has already helped students earn industry-recognized bioscience credentials and pursue careers in the life sciences.
Beyond the classroom, Mancini supports constant learning and collaboration among her fellow educators. She garners high respect from her colleagues for serving as the facilitator for the Professional Development Committee and the New Teacher Mentor Program, as well as for her membership in other organizations.
“Kristen Mancini gives our students the skills and confidence they need to pursue careers in the life sciences,” said Superintendent-Director Dr. Alexandre Magalhaes. “Her work building and expanding our Biotechnology program has opened doors for students to earn industry credentials and see a future for themselves in this field.”
The Educator of the Year award is open to educators serving pre-K through grade 12 students in Berkley, Dighton, Raynham and Taunton. Nominated educators must be notable for their exceptional teaching and leadership, positive impact on students’ lives and contributions to the broader communities they work in.
At the Chamber’s annual meeting, Bristol-Plymouth Biotechnology senior Brooke Weafer, of Dighton, also received the Charles E. Volkmann Future Leaders Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship, which goes toward the recipient’s first semester college tuition, is given to a senior residing in Taunton, Raynham, Dighton or Berkley who is interested in a business-related career, in recognition of their outstanding academic, extracurricular and civic achievements.
