Fowler School Students Participate in Statewide ‘We Declare! Challenge’ Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary

MAYNARD — Superintendent Brian Hass and Principal Keith Kinney are pleased to share that students from the Fowler School are participating in the statewide We Declare! Challenge, an educational initiative designed to engage students in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the nation.

Organized by iCivics, the challenge invites Grade 8 students and educators across the Commonwealth to bring history to life through a dramatized reading of the Declaration of Independence. Students will collaborate to read, interpret, and perform selections from the historic document to create a video submission.

The project aims to provide students with a meaningful opportunity to deepen their understanding of the nation’s founding principles while developing skills in collaboration and creative expression.

As part of the challenge, participating classes will submit their videos by May 15. All submissions are eligible to receive a $100 gift card for classroom use, with finalists advancing for a round of judging by prominent Massachusetts leaders.

Through this effort, Fowler School joins other Massachusetts schools in recognizing the state’s historic role as the birthplace of the American Revolution.

“This challenge represents an exciting opportunity for our students to connect and engage with our nation’s history through a hands-on approach,” said Principal Kinney. “We are looking forward to sharing the video that these students have worked hard on and are proud to showcase.”
