BEDFORD — During the month of April, the Bedford Police Department, through the Municipal Road Safety Grant, conducted additional distracted driving enforcement patrols in an effort to maintain community safety and educate the public.
Throughout the month, several Bedford police officers were assigned to patrols specifically enforcing these laws. Officers assigned to these shifts focused on motorists who were using their cell phones or involved in other distracted driving practices while operating motor vehicles.
As a result of the distracted driving enforcement initiative, 77 vehicles were stopped. The department issued 50 civil citations and 19 warnings. Two motor vehicles were towed.
In addition to cell phone use, the Bedford Police Department also issued warnings and citations for the following: Failing to Stop at a Red Light, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Speeding, and Equipment Violations.
“The Bedford Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of all roadway users,” said Interim Chief of Police Ken Fong. “We want to remind all drivers to stay diligent and pay attention to the road when operating a motor vehicle.”
