TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department responded to an incident at Tewksbury State Hospital.

On Thursday, April 16, at approximately 11:10 a.m., Tewksbury State Hospital Campus Police radioed for assistance, stating that a patient was out of control and breaking windows.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult female who had barricaded herself in the bathroom of her room. Officers de-escalated the situation and convinced her to come out of the bathroom.

A preliminary investigation determined that the patient threw a trash barrel at the door of her room, which caused the glass part of the door to shatter.

A subsequent investigation determined that the patient had a default warrant out of Boston.

The patient was arrested without incident and charged with Damaging Property.

The incident remains under investigation by Tewksbury Police.
