BILLERICA — Two Billerica paramedics are being credited with preventing a tragedy after discovering and responding to a residential fire in Lowell early Friday morning.
Paramedics Enrick “Nick” Nuttoli and Danika Connors were returning to Billerica from Lowell General Hospital on Friday, April 10, at about 3.30 a.m. While traveling on School Street in Lowell, they observed flames coming from the second floor of a 2 1/2-story, two-family home at 29-31 School St.
No lights were on, signaling that residents may not have been awake.
Paramedics Nuttoli and Connors immediately notified Billerica dispatch, which relayed information to the Lowell E-911 Communications Center.
Due to the fire conditions at the front of the home, Nuttoli and Connors moved to the side of the residence, knocking on doors and windows to wake any sleeping occupants.
All six residents were able to exit the home due to the paramedics’ actions. No one was injured.
“The actions taken by these paramedics exemplify professionalism, awareness and a commitment to protecting life,” said Chief Frost. “In a situation such as this, every second matters. Their quick thinking and willingness to act in a dangerous situation undoubtedly prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.”
