Upper Allen Township Police Department, with assistance from the Cumberland County Special Response Team, safely apprehended an armed suspect following a domestic incident Friday evening.

UPPER ALLEN TOWNSHIP — Upper Allen Township Police Department, with assistance from the Cumberland County Special Response Team, safely apprehended an armed suspect following a domestic incident Friday evening.

On Friday, March 27, at approximately 6 p.m., officers from the Upper Allen Township Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of Hemlock Road in the Village of Grantham in Mechanicsburg for a report of a domestic incident involving shots fired.

Officers responded immediately and determined that an armed suspect was barricaded inside a nearby home. There was evidence that at least one gunshot was fired before police arrived.

Upper Allen Township Police, with assistance from Mechanicsburg Borough Police and Hampden Township Police, established a secure perimeter around the home to contain the suspect and protect the public. Several local fire police agencies also assisted in the area.

Once a secure perimeter was established, the Cumberland County Special Response Team was contacted and responded with specially-trained officers.

As the team prepared to make entry into the home, the suspect surrendered without further incident.

There were no reported injuries.

The suspect is in police custody. The investigation remains active and charges are pending. The suspect will be identified once charges are finalized and the booking process is complete.

There is no ongoing danger to the public.

Cumberland County Communications, the Cumberland County Drone Team and the Messiah University Department of Safety also provided invaluable assistance.

“I want to thank all of our law enforcement partners who helped us bring this incident to a safe conclusion,” said Chief Andrew Parsons. “I am also grateful for the patience and understanding of residents in the neighborhood. We will release additional information as it becomes appropriate.”
