CONCORD — Superintendent Dr. Laurie Hunter announces that Stephanie Nephew has been appointed the next principal of Willard Elementary School, effective July 1. Nephew will succeed Matthew Lucey, who is retiring after serving as principal.

Nephew was selected following a multi-stage search process that included a screening committee and opportunities for students, families and staff to meet with finalists.

In February, the district invited members of the school community to express interest in serving on the search committee. Candidates were interviewed in late February, and the committee recommended finalists to Superintendent Hunter. Finalists later visited Willard Elementary School, where they participated in forums and met with students, educators and parents.

After conducting additional interviews and reference checks, Hunter made the final selection.

“Stephanie brings deep experience as a school leader and curriculum specialist, along with a clear commitment to supporting students, teachers and families,” Superintendent Hunter said. “Throughout the process, she stood out for her thoughtful leadership and her focus on building strong school communities.”

Nephew has served as the grades 4-8 literacy coordinator for Westborough Public Schools since 2016, where she leads district literacy initiatives, supports teachers through coaching and professional development and coordinates the district’s new teacher mentor program.

Earlier in her career, Nephew served as principal of Glover Elementary School in Milton Public Schools, where she led a turnaround effort that improved student outcomes and earned state recognition for closing achievement gaps. She also served as an elementary curriculum coordinator and held multiple instructional leadership roles in the district.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to work with the students, educators and families of Willard Elementary School,” Nephew said. “Strong schools are built through collaboration, and I look forward to getting to know the community and supporting the important work already underway.”

Nephew holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) in Educational Leadership from University of Massachusetts Boston, a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Tufts University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and Elementary Education from William Smith College. She also holds Massachusetts certifications as a principal, supervisor/director and elementary teacher.

She will officially begin her role as principal of Willard Elementary School on July 1.
