DRACUT — The Dracut Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday evening.
On Friday, March 20, at about 6:10 p.m., Dracut Police responded to the area of 16 Pleasant St. for a report of an armed robbery.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim had just left a nearby business after closing for the day when two men wearing all black clothing and face coverings approached him. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun. During the robbery, the victim was struck in the back of the head with a blunt object.
The suspects robbed the victim of personal items and fled in a silver Ford Explorer SUV toward Lowell.
Dracut Police alerted area departments to be on the lookout for the SUV.
Investigators later determined that the same vehicle was seen at an intersection in Lowell at about 6:47 p.m. The SUV was then observed entering a garage at an address on Maple Street.
Police also learned from the Lawrence Police Department that the vehicle matching the description had been reported stolen out of Lawrence.
On Saturday, March 21, Dracut Police executed a search warrant at the Maple Street address with assistance from the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT Team.
Police located the Explorer, which was towed.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dracut Police Department at 978-957-2123.
