Mendon-Upton’s Miscoe Hill Middle School Awarded Grant from One8 Foundation for Investigating History Curriculum

MENDON — Superintendent Dr. Maureen Cohen and Principal Anne Corron announce that Miscoe Hill Middle School has received a grant from the One8 Foundation to implement Investigating History, an Applied Learning social studies curriculum for grades 3-7.

Through the Investigating History curriculum, students engage in Applied Learning coursework to reach a deeper understanding of the past and present. The Applied Learning approach prepares students for success beyond the classroom by encouraging real-world problem-solving, content knowledge and soft skills. The Investigating History curriculum tasks students with asking and answering meaningful questions to become informed, engaged and skilled participants of a diverse democratic society.

The grant funds will support teacher professional development and the purchase of educational materials. Teachers and school leaders will have access to community events, and students will have opportunities to connect with industry professionals who can provide feedback on Investigating History coursework through events, showcases and classroom visits.

Investigating History Magnify, a team within Investigating History, will work directly with Miscoe Hill educators to help implement the curriculum.

“We are grateful to the One8 Foundation for the opportunities this grant provides,” said Principal Corron. “The Investigating History curriculum will engage students by connecting history to current events and introducing content that reflects the experiences of our students. We look forward to bringing this work into our classrooms.”

“Our partnership with the One8 Foundation continues to bring meaningful resources to our schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Cohen. “This grant builds on Miscoe Hill’s existing Applied Learning work and will help expand opportunities for both students and educators.”
