WEST NEWBURY – Superintendent Justin Bartholomew is proud to announce that Pentucket Regional High School alumnus Brian White will return to the district for a book-signing event on March 1 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Pentucket Regional Middle High School.

White’s recently published debut book, “The Locker Room is Not for Sale,” explores themes of character and integrity developed through athletics and teamwork.

White, a member of Pentucket’s Class of 1982, will return to the school for a book signing, allowing students to engage with him and discuss the themes of leadership and character that he has gained throughout his career. His visit is a demonstration of the role alumni play in becoming role models for current students as they advance toward post-graduate opportunities.

After graduating, White went on to lead Harvard University’s football team as quarterback. By the end of his playing career, White was the university’s second all-time leading passer and a second-team all-Ivy League athlete. At Harvard, he earned a bachelor’s degree in history.

His career in football evolved post-graduation, lending his experience in leadership to the coaching staff for several universities over a 40-year span. In 2004, his work as the University of Wisconsin’s Offensive Coordinator and Running Back Coach earned him a designation from the American Football Coaches Association as Assistant Coach of the Year. He is currently Senior Analyst and Running Back Coach at Bowling Green University.

“It is with tremendous pride and absolute conviction that I return to the place that forever shaped and prepared me for life. I am so excited and appreciative to come back home to Pentucket Regional High School for a book signing featuring my recently released book ‘The Locker Room is Not For Sale,'” said White. “Pentucket Regional High School and many unforgettable teachers and coaches shaped and molded my life in ways I am forever grateful. I can’t wait to come back and see so many people who have invested and poured their souls into my life!”

While students will be able to connect with and learn from the lessons of White’s storied career at the signing, for White, returning to Pentucket gives him the opportunity to reflect upon and remember those who shaped his career.

“To coaches Tom Flaherty, Steve Hayden, Dave Morse, Roger Roy, Dick Canepa and Tony Scibelli, thank you for paving my passion as a coach,” he said. “To teachers Helen McKittrick, Bill Martin, Marilyn Herschfield, Mr. Pollack, Mrs. Parry and the unforgettable Mary Gaffney, thank you for indelibly stamping passion, love, commitment and love of learning into my life.”

Copies of “The Locker Room is Not for Sale” are available for purchase on Amazon. Students who purchase a copy can get their book signed at the event.

“Pentucket Regional School District is committed to celebrating the successes of its alumni and creating opportunities for current students to engage with graduates that have turned passions into careers,” Superintendent Bartholomew said. “When alumni return to share their journeys, it reinforces in our students that their experiences here can shape their futures in a multitude of ways.”
