NORTH ANDOVER — Police Chief Charles Gray and Fire Chief John Weir report that the North Andover Police and Fire Departments responded to a crash involving a septic truck.

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, at approximately 1:56 p.m., North Andover Police and Fire responded to Boston Street near Willow Ridge Road and Paddock Lane for reports of a tri-axle septic truck that had rolled over, with the driver trapped inside.

Upon arrival, crews located the truck on its side. The truck was carrying roughly 4,500 gallons of septic sewage and appeared to be leaking.

North Andover firefighters utilized hydraulic cutting tools to rescue the driver, who was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

Andover Fire also responded to the scene.

North Andover Fire immediately notified the North Andover Board of Health, the North Andover Conservation Commission, and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) to develop a formal containment plan.

At this time, crews have contained the runoff from the truck and are utilizing equipment to empty the truck. Cody’s Towing Company is evaluating removal of the truck.

Boston Street remains closed as crews continue to work on cleanup.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by North Andover Police.
