Media Notes
The 72-foot Fishing Vessel Lily Jean sunk approximately 22 miles off Cape Ann on Jan. 30. The crew of seven: Captain Sanfilippo, Paul Beal. Sr., Paul Beal, Jr., John Rousanidis, Jada Samitt, Freeman Short and Sean Therrien were lost. Jada Samitt, a NOAA fisheries observer, is considered a member of the crew and references to her should not separate her contribution from that of the rest of the crew.
Gloucester is America’s oldest fishing seaport with a 400-year history. It is the birthplace of the U.S. fishing industry.
