Pentucket Regional School District Recognized for Excellence in Advanced Placement Programs

WEST NEWBURY – Superintendent Justin Bartholomew and Pentucket Regional Middle High School Principal Brenda Erhardt are proud to announce the school has been recognized for students’ success in Advanced Placement (AP) Programs.

College Board, a non-profit developing standardized tests and college planning resources for student success, announced that Pentucket has been named to the 2025 Advanced Placement Program School Honor Roll, earning the Silver distinction.

This is the second year Pentucket has earned this merit.

“Earning the AP School Honor Roll Silver distinction for a second consecutive year is a testament to the hard work of our students and staff,” said Superintendent Bartholomew. “This recognition reflects the students’ willingness to challenge themselves, which prepares them for success beyond high school.”

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering strong student results and boosting participation. Schools can earn this recognition based on criteria that reflect an increase in college attendance.

The program provides the opportunity for students to earn college credits and maximizes college preparedness.

In 2025, 61% of Pentucket seniors took at least one AP exam, 50% of those students scored a three or higher, and 7% of students who took five or more AP exams scored a three or higher on at least one exam.

Pentucket AP offerings include:

  • 16 courses covering STEM, humanities, global languages, and the arts
  • 22 advanced placement sections
  • 13 staff members teaching AP courses

Pentucket has invested in teacher training for the AP offerings and continues to showcase its students’ high achievements.

Advanced Placement classes are not the only opportunity students in Pentucket have to earn college credit. Several Dual Enrollment classes are offered with Southern New Hampshire University and Merrimack College, in which more than 300 students enrolled.

The district also partners with Northern Essex Community College for an Early College Program, where students can earn an associate’s degree in conjunction with a high school diploma.

Pentucket also offers two Innovation Career Pathways — connecting academics, industry needs and business partnerships with Advanced Manufacturing/Engineering Robotics and Life Science & Biotechnology.

“Our approach to advanced learning prioritizes access by broadening opportunities for all students,” said AP Coordinator Janna Millard. “We are committed to ensuring students have the opportunity to explore advanced courses. This drives our focus on diversifying course options for students with yearly increases in the number of Advanced Placement and dual enrollment offerings.”
