RANDOLPH — Chief Ronald Cassford reports that the Randolph Fire Department extinguished a fire in a condominium building on Thursday afternoon.
On Thursday, Jan. 22, at about 4:25 p.m., the Randolph Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at 59 Highland Glen Drive and simultaneously received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke on the third floor of the multifamily building.
When crews arrived, they observed smoke coming from a window on the third floor of the three-story residential condominium building.
All residents had safely evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival, including the occupant of the affected unit, who was assisted out by neighbors.
Firefighters located a fire in the bedroom of a third-floor unit, stretched a hose line to the third floor and quickly extinguished the fire.
A preliminary investigation by the Randolph Fire Department determined that the fire was likely caused by a candle inside the unit.
All residents were able to return to their homes except for the occupants of the unit where the fire originated and the unit directly below, which sustained smoke and water damage. The American Red Cross of Massachusetts is assisting the displaced residents.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
The Braintree Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene, while the Milton, Avon and Weymouth Fire Departments covered stations in Randolph during the incident.
“I would like to commend our crews for quickly locating and extinguishing the fire before it could spread further,” said Chief Cassford. “Fires in multifamily buildings can spread rapidly, and our crews prevented that from happening. This incident occurred while our Department was handling multiple emergencies elsewhere in town, and we are grateful to our mutual aid partners for their support.”
