MANSFIELD — Superintendent Dr. Michelle McKeon, Principal Russ Booth, and Athletic Director Timothy Selmon are proud to share that two Mansfield High School head coaches have received Coach of the Year honors from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
Stephen Sheridan, the Mansfield High School Boys Soccer Head Coach, and Michael Redding, the Mansfield High School Football Head Coach, were each named MIAA Coach of the Year for their respective sports for the 2024-25 season.
The awards were presented during the MIAA Awards Banquet held on Dec. 8. Both coaches attended the ceremony with their families, along with Athletic Director Selmon and Principal Russ Booth.
“I am extremely honored and grateful to receive this award,” said Coach Sheridan. “This recognition truly reflects the dedication of my coaching staff and the commitment, character, and effort of our student-athletes, who make coaching such a rewarding experience.”
“I am very appreciative of this honor and thankful to the players, coaches, and administrators who have supported our program over the years,” said Coach Redding. “Coaching at Mansfield High School has been a privilege, and this award represents the dedication of many people who care deeply about our students and our community.”
Coach Sheridan has been part of the Mansfield boys soccer program since 1998, starting as a coach of the freshman team. He has served as the varsity head coach since 2010.
Sheridan’s coaching resume includes Hockomock League Championships in 2015 and 2018 as head coach, a 2024 MIAA Final Four appearance, and a 2006 Hockomock League Championship as an assistant coach. He was also named the 2015 HockSports Boys Soccer Coach of the Year, the 2024 EMASS Coaches Association Division 2 Coach of the Year, and the 2024-25 MIAA Boys Soccer Coach of the Year.
Beyond his success on the field, Coach Sheridan has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the Mansfield community, including more than two decades of involvement with Mansfield Youth Soccer as a coach, advisor, and volunteer, volunteering at the annual Columbus Day Tournament, and participating in community service efforts including a leaf raking event to help local elderly residents.
Coach Redding brings a distinguished career as both an educator and coach, leading the football team for more than 37 years as head coach.
Throughout his time at the helm of the Mansfield High School Football team, Coach Redding has notched more than 300 wins. Redding was inducted into the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2019 and he also has been named Boston Globe, Boston Herald and New England Patriots Coach of the Year on multiple occasions. His teams have earned 8 state championships and 20 league championships during his tenure.
In addition to the MIAA honor, Coach Redding was named the Regional (Section One) National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Football Coach of the Year, an award that includes New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island and New York.
On top of being head coach of the football team, Coach Redding, who retired as a social studies teacher in 2020, is a long-distance runner, having run the Boston Marathon for 20 years. Redding also previously coached the Mansfield High School Girls Basketball team from 1998 to 2020 and earned over 300 victories during that span.
Superintendent McKeon, Principal Booth, and Athletic Director Selmon each commended Sheridan and Redding for their accomplishments and their lasting impact on student-athletes.
“Coach Sheridan and Coach Redding represent everything we strive for in Mansfield athletics: excellence, integrity, and a commitment to developing young people both on and off the field,” said Athletic Director Selmon. “We are incredibly proud of their achievements and grateful for the leadership they provide.”
“These awards are a testament not only to their competitive success, but also the impact Coach Sheridan and Coach Redding have made on their student-athletes and peers,” said Principal Booth. “Mansfield High School is fortunate to have educators and coaches of this caliber.”
“Coach Sheridan and Coach Redding have dedicated decades to serving Mansfield students with passion and professionalism,” said Superintendent McKeon. “Their recognition at the state and regional levels reflects the strength of our athletic programs and the values we instill in our schools.”
