HANSON — Chief Robert O’Brien reports that the Hanson Fire Department responded to a bedroom fire on Wednesday evening that activated a sprinkler system.

On Wednesday, Nov. 12, at approximately 6:44 p.m., the Hanson Fire Department responded to 1479 Main St. for a reported bedroom fire.

Crews arrived to find a heavy smoke condition inside one of the apartment units and the fire sprinkler system flowing. Firefighters made entry, confirmed that the sprinkler system had largely contained the fire and completed final extinguishment.

Two apartments were impacted by water and smoke damage. No residents, firefighters or animals were injured as a result of the fire.

A preliminary investigation determined that the fire was accidental and caused by a candle.

“Candle fires happen fast, and they are entirely preventable,” said Chief O’Brien. “If you choose to use candles, keep them away from anything that can burn, place them on a stable surface and never leave them unattended. These simple steps can make a big difference.”

Wednesday evening’s fire was the second fire in three days in Hanson. On Nov. 10, firefighters responded to a separate fire at a house on High Street.
