Attleboro Fire Department Responds After Vehicle Strikes Store on Washington Street

ATTLEBORO — At approximately 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Attleboro Fire Department was dispatched to 266 Washington St. for a report of a vehicle into a building. The location, a convenience store and pharmacy, was open and occupied at the time of the crash.

Upon arrival, crews found a sedan that had struck the building, breached the wall and caused significant structural damage. Firefighters immediately assessed the scene for hazards and began rendering medical aid to the driver.

The operator of the vehicle, a female senior citizen, suffered minor injuries and was transported by AFD rescue personnel to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for evaluation. No bystanders or store employees were injured.

The Attleboro Building Inspector determined the structure had sustained substantial compromise, forcing the business to temporarily close pending repairs and further inspection.

“It’s fortunate this incident didn’t result in something more serious,” said Fire Capt. Nick Sheehan. “The store could have easily had customers in the area where the car struck. The outcome could have been much worse.”

Crews remained on scene for approximately 50 minutes securing the building and assisting city inspectors before clearing at 2:40 p.m.
