CONCORD — Concord Public Schools invite community members to a special event honoring Ellen Garrison, Concord’s own civil rights activist and educator, and the namesake of the new Ellen Garrison Building at Concord Middle School.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 6:30 p.m., the Ellen Garrison Building at Concord Middle School will host Celebrating Ellen Garrison: A Community Event, an evening organized by Playbook Initiative Student Leaders at Concord Middle School and co-sponsored by The Robbins House.
Guests will view a screening of “Ellen Garrison: Scenes From an Activist Life,” produced by Half the History Productions, followed by a Q&A session with staff from The Robbins House.
The program will also feature Victoria Lee, an actor and ABA tutor, who will portray Garrison.
This all-ages event welcomes students, families and residents from throughout the Concord Public Schools, Concord-Carlisle Regional School District and the Concord and Boston communities. The evening will celebrate Garrison’s lasting impact and encourage reflection on her contributions to equality and education.
Student-led tours of the Ellen Garrison Building will be offered at 6 p.m. before the event, and again following the event.
“The story of Ellen Garrison reminds us that education, courage and community have always been central to progress,” said Superintendent Dr. Laurie Hunter. “We’re proud to join The Robbins House and our Playbook Student Leaders in sharing her legacy with the community.”
