MEDWAY — Athletic Director Jeff Parcells and Principal John Murray are proud to share that the third annual Kick Out Cancer soccer fundraiser held at Medway High School raised $11,000 this year for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

The Kick Out Cancer fundraiser included two soccer matches hosted by Medway High School on Oct. 9 and 14. The Medway High School boys varsity team fell to Hopkinton on North Field, and then the Medway High School girls varsity team played Dover-Sherborn and won 1-0.

Throughout the history of the Kick Out Cancer fundraiser, Medway High School has raised $32,000 for Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund.

The Medway High School soccer program’s Kick Out Cancer fundraising campaign was organized by Kaitlyn McMahon, a player on Medway High’s girls varsity team, continuing the efforts of her older brother Kevin.

“What Kaitlyn and her brother Kevin have been able to do the past several years is amazing,” said Christopher Borden, head coach of the boys varsity team. “This event is so meaningful to me as both of my parents passed away with cancer. This match is one of the highlights of our season every year and we are honored that we get to be a part of it.”

“It is truly inspiring to see how the Medway community is able to come together for an event that goes deeper than just the Medway community,” said Ryan Elster, head coach of the girls varsity team. “To be able to give back and help others is something that our programs enjoy having the opportunity to do.”

Medway High School thanked everyone who contributed to the Kick Out Cancer campaign, including everyone who purchased T-shirts, donated money and spread the word about the event.

“Watching our community rally around this year’s Kick Out Cancer event has been incredibly inspiring,” said Athletic Director Jeff Parcells. “We all would like to congratulate our students for raising $11,000 for such an important cause. I think the entire community should be incredibly proud.”

“Each year, Kicks Out Cancer demonstrates the best of our Medway community,” said Principal John Murray. “It’s not just about the soccer games and the final results. This is about our students standing up together, organizing for such a worthy cause and making a significant contribution to treatment and research in the fight against cancer.”
