Fairhaven Police Arrest New Bedford Man Following Seizure of 1.7 Kilograms of Cocaine

FAIRHAVEN — Chief Daniel M. Dorgan reports that the Fairhaven Police Department, in collaboration with law enforcement partners, arrested a New Bedford man and seized about 1.7 kilograms of cocaine, as well as a significant amount of fentanyl, following a lengthy investigation.

CALIXTO SMITH, 28, of NEW BEDFORD, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with:

  • Trafficking in 200 Grams or More of Cocaine
  • Trafficking in 10 Grams or More of Fentanyl
  • Distribution of a Class B Drug
  • Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Laws

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, Fairhaven Police Detectives, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration and with the assistance of the New Bedford Police Department, executed multiple search warrants.

These warrants were obtained after a lengthy investigation into drug-related activity.

During the execution of the warrants, detectives seized approximately 1.7 kilograms of cocaine, 11 grams of fentanyl, 265 suspected pressed fentanyl pills and $11,000 in cash.

As a result of the investigation, SMITH was arrested.

“I want to commend the Fairhaven Police Detectives for their outstanding work during this lengthy and thorough investigation,” said Chief Daniel M. Dorgan. “This arrest highlights the strong collaboration among law enforcement agencies working together for the greater good of the communities and people we all serve. It also underscores our continued commitment to combating the distribution of illegal narcotics and protecting public safety.”

SMITH is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in New Bedford District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
