Mansfield Police Department Arrests Connecticut Man Following Pursuit

MANSFIELD — Chief Ronald Sellon reports that the Mansfield Police Department arrested a Connecticut man following a pursuit on Thursday morning.

NATHANIEL J. MUTTS JR., AGE 32, of BRANFORD, CONNECTICUT, was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
  • Uninsured Motor Vehicle
  • Unregistered Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop/Yield
  • Number Plate Violation

MUTTS also had two active warrants for his arrest.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, at about 9:19 a.m., Officer Justin Pena was conducting traffic enforcement at the intersection of Chauncy Street (Route 106) and Winthrop Avenue. He observed a black Honda Civic driving west on Chauncy Street and subsequently learned the car’s registration had been canceled.

Officer Pena activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and siren, but the driver failed to stop. The low-speed pursuit continued onto Route 140, Walnut Street, and West Street, where the driver failed to stop at a stop sign.

The driver eventually stopped in the parking lot of an apartment complex on West Street. He ran a short distance, then was taken into custody by Officers Pena and Danielle Titus without incident. He was identified as MUTTS.

The investigation revealed that MUTTS was driving with a suspended license and had two active warrants for his arrest. The car was not insured or registered.

“The officers did an excellent job handling this situation safely and professionally,” said Chief Sellon. “Their calm response and teamwork, along with the outstanding support from the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communications Center, resulted in this incident being resolved without injury or further risk to the public.”

These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
