NORTH READING — Chief Don Stats reports that the North Reading Fire Department, with significant assistance from its mutual aid partners, responded to a two-alarm fire at a home Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, Sept. 16, at about 4:55 a.m., North Reading Fire was dispatched to 52 Abbott Road for report of a house fire.

North Reading Engine 3, made up of Captain Brian Nash and Firefighters Jeff Carey, Cory Harris and Liam Tannian, arrived on scene and observed the home’s detached garage fully involved in flames, with fire spreading to the main body of the home.

A second alarm was immediately struck to bring additional personnel to the scene, including a second engine and ladder truck. Crews quickly engaged in an aggressive attack, first knocking down the parts of the fire that had extended to the house and then concentrating on the garage.

The fire was knocked down at about 5:30 a.m., and crews remained on scene for another hour to conduct overhaul operations and monitor and extinguish any remaining heat sources.

No residents were home when the fire started, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the North Reading Police Department.

Mutual aid was provided by the Fire Departments of Wilmington, Reading, Andover and Lynnfield. The Middleton and Wakefield Fire Departments provided station coverage. The North Reading Police Department also responded to the scene.

“I would like to commend all who responded to this incident. The collective work of our Department and mutual aid partners ensured that the fire could be knocked down before doing more damage to the main body of the home,” said Chief Stats.
