FALL RIVER — Superintendent Dr. Tracy Curley is pleased to announce that Lisa Zagarella Coutu has been named interim principal of Edmond P. Talbot Middle School.
Zagarella Coutu, who has been the director of Multilingual Learner (MLL) programs for Fall River Public Schools since 2023, takes over as interim principal of Talbot Middle School effective immediately.
Becoming interim principal at Edmond P. Talbot Middle School is a homecoming for Zagarella Coutu, who worked there as the Humanities Department Chair from 2013 through 2020.
“As many of you know, I was previously a part of the Talbot learning community for many years,” said Zagarella Coutu in a message to Talbot staff. “I am looking forward to being able to reconnect with those of you with whom I have worked in the past, and to meeting those of you who I have not yet had the opportunity to work with during my journey in education.
“Please know that my decision to take on this role at this moment is grounded in two important factors,” she continued. “The first is my belief that Talbot is a special place that is well-poised for both innovation and success. I know firsthand of the expertise, hard work, and dedication that are present in the building. The second factor is that, on a personal level, I have missed working with this team.”
Before her role as MLL Director, Zagarella Coutu was an English language arts teacher and coach at Henry Lord Community School. Before that, she served as an assistant principal and principal at Dr. Earl F. Calcutt Middle School in Central Falls, Rhode Island.
Zagarella Coutu also previously taught English at B.M.C. Durfee High School for five years.
Zagarella Coutu holds a bachelor’s degree in theater and a master’s degree in teaching English language arts from Rhode Island College. Zagarella Coutu is also certified by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Supervisor/Director, and she is certified as an English teacher by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Dr. Curley said the District is excited to welcome Zagarella Coutu into the role of interim principal of Talbot Middle School, recognizing her depth of experience working for the district and the obvious passion she has for Talbot itself.
“Lisa knows Talbot well, having served as the school’s Humanities Department Head, where she worked side-by-side with teachers to strengthen instruction and build a positive school culture,” Dr. Curley said. “Anyone who knows her well knows that Lisa is passionate about making school a place where every student feels supported and challenged, so it is exciting to see how much she is looking forward to working more closely with the Talbot community once again.”
