NEW LONDON — Superintendent John Fortney and Principal Charles Langille are pleased to announce that senior Soeren Baughman has been named Kearsarge Regional High School’s (KRHS) Student of the Month for February.
The Student of the Month is selected by Kearsarge faculty from a pool of nominated students. This honor is in recognition of the student’s positive conduct and character, both on and off campus, and is an acknowledgment of the individual’s positive moral character and contributions to the school community.
Baughman, a senior from Springfield, was selected for this honor based on nominations from school staff and faculty. He was also selected as February’s Student-Athlete of the Month.
“As a leader of the Student Council as well as the classroom, Soeren has worked tirelessly to improve the school,” said English Teacher Chris Dayhoof. “He has been a driving force of positive change in the role of Student Council.”
Sarah Millard, KRHS Math Teacher, said: “Soeren is a wonderful addition to my class rosters this year. He is always willing to lend a hand to anyone (students and teachers) when they need it. He is a conscientious and hard-working student who is always looking to better their understanding of math. He is a friendly face in the hallways that will be greatly missed next year!”
A memorable opportunity Baughman recalled from his time in the District was his internship with the US Army Corp of Engineers Engineering Research and Development Center, made possible through KRHS’ Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) program. The internship introduced him to working in a professional setting while still earning high school credits. He will be returning to the Center as an employee this summer.
“I would like to thank Superintendent Fortney and Mr. Dahoof for teaching me so many lessons about leadership and life,” Baughman said. He also thanked Justin Gariza, his strength and conditioning coach, for nurturing his love of weightlifting and being a great coach throughout his high school career.
After graduating this spring, Baughman will attend the University of Utah’s Honor College in Salt Lake City to pursue Mechanical Engineering. He also plans to participate in the school’s Accelerated Masters Program.
