AVON — Chief Jeffrey Bukunt is pleased to announce that a new Avon Police Department officer was sworn in during a ceremony on Thursday night.
On Thursday, Feb. 6, Officer John T. Galvin was sworn in as an Avon Police officer by Town Clerk Patricia Bessette during a Select Board meeting at Avon Town Hall.
Officer Galvin graduated from the Municipal Police Training Committee’s Recruit Officer 77th Class (ROC) in Plymouth on Jan. 24. The academy graduated 59 recruits, representing 35 municipal and collegiate agencies. The academy provides 800 hours of standardized training in all aspects of law enforcement during the 20-week program.
A Hanover native, Officer Galvin earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fitchburg State University in 2023.
He was pinned by his father, John Galvin, with his mother, Donna Galvin, by his side.
“I’m pleased to welcome Officer Galvin to the Avon Police Department, and I’m confident that he will go above and beyond to serve and protect our community to the highest degree,” Chief Bukunt said. “On behalf of the Avon Police Department, I want to extend our appreciation to the members of the Avon Select Board; Chair Eric S. Beckerman, Clerk Jason L. Suzor Sr., and Associate Shannon M. Coffey. Their continuous support has allowed us to become one of the only fully staffed police departments in the area, which is a vital component of a safe community.”
