Littleton Middle School Students Showcase Creativity Through Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest

LITTLETON — Superintendent Dr. Kelly Clenchy and Assistant Principal Matthew LeVangie are proud to share the creativity of Littleton Middle School (LMS) students, who competed in their Advisory classrooms as part of the school’s third annual pumpkin decorating contest.

Every LMS student is part of an Advisory group designed to help them cultivate unique and authentic relationships within the LMS community. LMS wanted to provide the Advisory groups with an artistic outlet and a team-building experience. Grade 8 Math Teacher Amy Manheimer suggested a pumpkin decorating contest, which is now in its third year.

In their Advisories, students collaborate to design and decorate pumpkins to be entered into the competition. The completed pumpkins are displayed in the school’s front lobby and are voted by the student body to pick a grade-level winner and an overall winner.

There were 33 pumpkins submitted this year — one pumpkin for each Advisory group.

Students voted for their favorite pumpkins on Halloween, Oct. 31.

The winners include:

  • Grade 6 and overall winner: Angela Gresco’s Advisory — “Pac-Man”
  • Grade 7 winner: Andrea Pagington’s Advisory — “Olaf”
  • Grade 8 winner: Gregory Gillette’s Advisory — “Celtics”

“The students do an amazing job with their pumpkins every year,” said Assistant Principal LeVangie. “We always look forward to this tradition, which gives students an outlet for creative expression, as well as a few laughs that help them build bonds with one another.”
