BLACKSTONE — Parks and Recreation Chairperson Celeste Langlois and Veterans’ Service Officer Dennis Pimenta wish to invite community members to the Town of Blackstone’s Veterans Day Ceremony.

On Sunday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Town of Blackstone is hosting a breakfast and ceremony to honor local veterans at Divine Mercy Parish, Parish Center Lower Hall, 48 Saint Paul St., Blackstone.

The Blackstone Parks and Recreation Department and the Blackstone Veterans’ Service Office are coordinating the event in collaboration with Divine Mercy Parish, Divine Mercy Coffee and Fellowship, and local scout troops.

The complimentary hot breakfast will begin at 9 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m., the Rev. John Larochelle will give a blessing to veterans, followed by words of appreciation from State Rep. Mike Soter.

Divine Mercy Religious Education students will lead attendees in a patriotic song following the welcome.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, a pinning ceremony will recognize veterans who served between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 31, 1975. Deployment to Vietnam is not required to receive a pin. One veteran will receive his Purple Heart as recognition for being wounded while serving in the U.S. military.

The scouts will hold a flag retirement ceremony on the back lawn to close the ceremony.

The event is free and open to all who wish to attend.

“I am honored to invite our community to join us for a special Veterans Day ceremony to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country,” Chairperson Langlois said. “This ceremony is an opportunity for us to show our heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.”
