NEWBURYPORT — Police Lt. Matt Simons reports that a Newburyport man has been summonsed and charged in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred in August.
BRIAN FANTRY, AGE 41 of NEWBURYPORT has been summonsed to Newburyport District Court and charged with:
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Personal Injury
On Aug. 20, Newburyport Police responded to reports of a cyclist who was struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of High Street and Pond Street.
An initial investigation determined that the cyclist was struck by a motor vehicle and that the vehicle fled from the scene.
The cyclist was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that were believed to be serious. The cyclist has since been released from the hospital.
Police were unable to locate the vehicle during their initial investigation.
During a subsequent investigation led by Det. Chris McDonald, Newburyport Police were able to identify the driver as FANTRY and locate him and his vehicle.
“This was a traumatic incident for everyone involved and I’m thankful that the cyclist appears to be on his way to recovery,” said Lt. Simons. “Information and evidence provided by the community, and seasoned investigative work by Det. McDonald were the most important factors in bringing closure to this case.”
