LUNENBURG – Chief Thomas Gammel is pleased to share that the Lunenburg Police Department will host a series of Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D) classes for women ages 18 or older throughout October.
The R.A.D. Systems of Self Defense Program is designed to teach women personal safety skills. Lessons covered during classes include awareness, prevention, and risk reduction and avoidance. The classes also teach physical defense techniques, allowing participants to engage in hands-on training emulating potential real-life scenarios. The classes are led by certified R.A.D instructors.
Classes will be held on the following dates:
- Oct. 9 and 16, from 4-7 p.m., at Thomas C. Passios Elementary School, 1025 Massachusetts Ave.
- Oct. 23 and 30, from 5-8 p.m., at Lunenburg Primary School, 1401 Massachusetts Ave.
Women 18 years or older are invited to register for the classes. Classes will be limited to 16 participants, and registration is first-come, first-served.
Registration is accessible on the Town website, located here. Those with questions are asked to email Public Safety Desk Clerk Kennedy Jackson at kjackson@lunenburgma.gov.
“The tactics these classes teach can make a valuable difference in a dangerous situation,” said Chief Gammel. “I encourage women in our community, especially those who are preparing to enter college, to register for classes.”
