DRACUT — Police Chief Peter Bartlett and Fire Chief Richard Patterson report that the Dracut Police and Fire Departments are seeking information on a man who used fireworks to set fire to a porta potty at Veteran’s Memorial Park. They urge anyone with information to contact the Arson Watch Reward Program, which offers rewards of up to $5,000.

On Sunday, Aug. 18, at approximately 8:45 p.m., the Dracut Fire Department was called to Veteran’s Memorial Park, 80 Broadway Road, for a report of a fire.

Companies arrived to find a privately-owed porta potty burning. They quickly extinguished the fire. The porta potty that burned is the only handicapped-accessible porta potty in the park.

Video surveillance from the park showed that a man set off fireworks inside the porta-potty, sparking the fire shortly before firefighters were called to the scene.

The Dracut Police Department and Dracut Fire Department are now working to identify the man seen in surveillance video, and they are releasing video and still photos of the incident.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his teens or early 20s, with brown hair. He was wearing a white shirt, dark-colored pants, black and white shoes and a baseball cap. He and others who were with him left the area in a silver Toyota Corolla with New Hampshire license plates.

The Dracut Police and Fire Departments ask that anyone with information on the identity of the individual seen in surveillance footage call Dracut Police at 978-957-2123, or the Arson Watch Reward Hotline at 800-682-9229.

The Arson Watch Reward Program is coordinated by the Massachusetts Property Insurance Underwriting Association and provides rewards of up to $5,000 for information that helps to solve or prevent arson crimes. Tipsters may remain anonymous if they prefer.
